My Birthday

This is the first year that I was just content not celebrating.  I think I've finally reached that age.  Sad.  lol

I really wanted to go rafting, so we went up to Truckee thinking we'd raft for the day and stay the night up there somewhere.  Well, they hadn't let out the damn yet because there is so much water this year.  So no rafting for us.  Instead we played in the river for a while with a picnic lunch and then stayed in a little lodge right on the river.  It was beautiful.  And I got some great pics of the kids!
All framers for the wall, for sure!  And ones to print for family!
We had fun teaching the kids how to skip rocks too.  They had just as much fun searching for flat rocks!
It was a fun BirthDay after all!

Marriage is...

Hard.  Anyone who says it isn't, is fooling themselves and you.  Meshing two lives is serious business that takes work and dedication.  Being equally yolked makes for a much easier foundation.  It doesn't mean it will be simple.  It just means that you have a covering that you both see working in your lives.

Communication is huge.  Learning how to listen to one another is key.  Understanding and making sure you are clear is essential.  Often times what one of us says is interpreted not the way it was intended.  Thus communicating this clarity saves much frustration and hurt.  Trying to understand each other and taking the time to "get" our intentions is worth it.

Mike and I didn't have TV for our first four years of marriage.  It was the best decision for our marriage.  We spent a lot of time creating a foundation of playing games, enjoying each others company, and talking about anything/everything!  We often find time especially during the summertime to play games over lunch and talk about anything that comes up.  Sometimes it's work talk, sometimes it's our kids talk, sometimes it telling jokes or a story we heard, sometimes it's laughing at our ridiculous sunburn lines!  Our openness to talk about ANY subject makes us vulnerable to one another and creates a trust that we can't live without.  I can tell Mike anything.  I mean anything.  Sometimes after a chat about some sort of intimate nature, we look at each other and say, "Ok, NOW we've talked about everything!"  At least until the next crazy subject comes up!

Mike is truly my BEST friend ever.  He holds my earthly heart like non other.  I trust him with my entire world and I know he does the same for me.  We have been so incredibly blessed with each other as spouses that I know only God designed us together.  This doesn't mean that we don't have our arguments.  We do.  As any two people trying to mesh a life together will.  Just ask my girlfriends...the ones I call when Mike is annoying me!  But, it's not the end of the world.  We talk through things, we brainstorm ways we can both improve a situation and we try really hard to see how we can make things right for one another.  It's tough stuff.  If you're married, you know.  But nothing worth anything is easy.

Cry over spilled milk

We were at Chick fil-A the other day with all the kids.  A little boy, must have just turned 3, spilled his milk.  And what do we hear him yell in frustration?  "Oh f***"  Yes, you read that right!  Mike and I just looked wide eyed at each other in disbelief.  His mom looked at him in frustration that he spilled the milk all over the place.  He looked at her and said it again!  WOW.  Amazing.

Splash Time

We've had so much fun with the boys here!  They all came down last Friday, Uncle Billy & Aunt Jody went home on Sunday and we've had 5 kids in the house since then.  It's been stinkin' HOT this week too.  I had lots of play time planned for outside that just didn't happen.
We did lots of sprinkler play
and then it began the BOYS
vs
The GIRLS
And we had lots of squirt gun wars as well!
It has finally cooled down and we have been able to enjoy lots of swimming.  Those pics are to come next....

This Honsal family has increased by two!

Two Honsal boys that is!  Mike's brother's boys are will us for the week.  We are having a blast already!  Their parents left this afternoon after an eventful weekend and Mike headed off to work just before.  So here I am...with 5 children!  But after dinner the kids put their swim trunks on and played in the sprinklers for a good hour.  It was 107 degrees today, so what better way to spend the evening?!  They are all showered, having a snack and watching a few moments of TV before they are off to bed to regroup for another fun day tomorrow!

Stay tuned for fun pics of this next week!  Oh how I love summer!

Lady Bugs!

Mia loves lady bugs. She is the only one who will hold them. She loves to find them too. There have been numerous times we'll be out shopping or something and she spies one and is off to capture it. She always brings them home to put on our rose bushes. Our roses have lots of aphids so we have been talking a lot about buying a bunch of lady bugs and trying to deal with them the natural way. We found some while at OSH today and she was thrilled!! You have to let them out at night time when they are dormant or they will just fly away.

Tonight, after a long Super Family Fun Day, we almost forgot about the lady bugs! This was at about 9:30pm...good thing it's Summertime for the girls! hehe

Spring Time

So I've taken a hiatus from blogging....just haven't been in the writing mood again.  Also, have way too much to do each night instead of sit here and deal with pics and such.  I have a ton of updating to do, I know, and I'll get to it.  Only 14 more school days left for me and I'll have so much more time to do the things I want! (as opposed to the things I need to do!)  For now, here are some pics of Cal's actual birthday...

Diabetic Youth Foundation

My good friend Carole has two boys and a girl.  Her oldest child, Tyler, is 10 and her youngest child, Ryan, is 3.  They both have Type 1 Diabetes.  They are in the midst of preparing for the 2nd Annual Families in the Forest Walk to raise money for children with Diabetes go to a special kids summer camp.  It is a great organization and I whole heartedly support it.  Please check out the page and consider donating.  Even $5 may not seem  huge for one person, but within the pot of donations, it's huge.  Every penny counts!

How the Table Turns

One of my all time favorite books that I have read to ALL my children as they have grown:

This is such a sweet book and fortunately each of my kids have loved it too.

Tonight, Mia picked this book to read to me.  We haven't read it in a long while and it was so heartwarming to hear her read it so smoothly to me.  She has taken reading by storm and I'm so proud of the huge accomplishment she has made this year.  She has done so very well and her confidence has quadrupled as a 1st grader.  So awesome to have her reading to me now.

Let's take a little trip

Alcatraz
We took the kids to San Francisco for the night and were tourists for a couple of days.  It was so much fun.  We wandered around Pier 39, Ghiradelli Square, rode the trolley cars to Union Square and back, and dinner at the Rainforest Cafe.  The next day we played at the Discovery Kids Museum, walked half way across the Golden Gate Bridge, drove the crooked-est street in the world, and went up to Coit Tower.  The kids loved every minute of it!  We are definitely doing this more often!  At least each time Mike get's more than one day off of work at a time!

At the Discovery Museum, Mia went to town on the hula hoops.  She was like a circus act.  She started with one hoop and people were clapping.  I put another one on over her head and it didn't phase her to keep two going.  Then Cal threw another one over her head and she amazed the crowd with three hoops going!  It was awesome!

Careful, you'll get 'yer melon stuck!

Cal, getting a talking to after a time out.  This has become one of my favorite pics lately.  I think I captured quite the emotion here. ;)
